Introduction
We are a family-owned company which produces red wine from vineyards established before 1900, from a very specific terroir (you can check our wines here). The name Kodkod is because this little feline still dwells in the forests next to the Maule River.
The Origin of the Grapes
The grapes are sourced from Santa Rosa de Lavaderos. Is a small, secluded valley surrounded by hills of the Coastal Range, the Rivers Maule and Loncomilla. These rivers marked the southern limit of the Inca Empire, then for hundreds of years during Spanish rule and until the beginning of the XX century were navigable and an important trade route. Until the end of the XIX century (when the first steam-train bridge was built), the crossing of the rivers was made with ferries and boats where the rivers Maule and Loncomilla merge, it was the first place with relatively calm waters; this is the reason for which it was named “El Barco” (Spanish for “Boat”).

Winemaking
Grandson of the owners of Santa Rosa de Lavaderos, Paul Mc Rostie Bustamante is an Agronomist who graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, he also was an exchange student at UC Davis and later received a scholarship to study in the École des Hautes Études Commerciales de Paris in France. He has worked as a winemaker and cellarhand in wineries in Chile, Australia, Oregon, California, and France. Besides making wine he currently is involved in the WSET course provider “Masteringwine“. At our family, we always had wine at our table with meals; we strive in general for wines, which are subtle, made with care and a high technical standard. At Kodkod we have the rare opportunity to make red wine from vineyards established before 1900.
He loves mountain biking on the hills of the farm and swimming in the Maule river. He lives in Santiago with his wife and three children.
Management and WSET School
Peter Mc Rostie is a Stanford University alumni and WSET level four. Besides teaching at “Masteringwine” he helps his son with the management (and wine tasting!).
